Wind Ensemble Competitions

The public is welcome in all competitions!

Internat. Conductor’s Competition

The international and German wind music scene shows a clearly positive overall development. The genre is characterized by innovative artistic expressions such as symphonic wind bands and modern structures in instrumental education as well as associations which depict sociocultural multidimensionality in its structures. Meanwhile, thanks to many-faceted measures in education and training, such as efforts made by the wind music associations and numerous courses of studies in wind orchestra conducting at conservatories, a larger number of young and qualified orchestra conductors is available.

Although in their practical work, they are mainly active by themselves in a regional environment.

The CISM and the BDMV want to focus these circumstances by implementing the International Conductor’s competition.
Young conductors shall have the opportunity to present themselves, compare themselves with their colleagues, to come together in conversation and be publicly noticed. An internationally renowned expert jury will judge the young conductors in four rounds of various requirements.

At the same time, the competition aims to provoke discussion on artistic, educational and social competences expected by the conductors.

Therefore, conductorial skills, artistic interpretation, convincing personality as well as methodical-didactical organization of rehearsal are central to the competition, which will be held in four rounds.

Hereby, the Deutsche Musikfest wants to offer an innovative format of competition with lasting effects.

Wind Music Classes

One of the central tasks of the Bundesvereinigung Deutscher Musikverbände (BDMV) and the Deutsche Bläserjugend (DBJ) is the promotion of playing music in ensembles and symphonic wind bands. A large share of children and youths in the member associations learns a wind instrument in a wind music class and thus acquires skills in ensemble music from the very beginning. At the Deutsche Musikfest 2019, all wind music classes are offered the opportunity to present their performance level in direct comparison to other classes. Musical input should be included in the wind class presentation as well as other aspects.

The competition takes place from Thursday, May 30 to Saturday, June 1, 2019 in Osnabrück.
